Children between 0-3 years old do not need an Interrail Pass. The child can travel for free on an adult's lap. However, if you want to reserve a seat for the child, the child must have an Interrail Pass. Similarly, if you are traveling on a night train, the child must have an Interrail Pass to get a separate bed.
Children between 4-11 years old must have an Interrail Pass. Child Passes are free and must be purchased with an adult pass. The Child Pass cannot be added later. Up to two children can travel for free per adult pass. The adult does not need to be a family member but can be someone in the travel party over 18. If more than two children want to travel with one adult, a Youth Pass must be purchased for the additional children.
