You only need one travel day for a night train. If you travel on a night train that arrives after midnight, only the departure day counts as a travel day. However, you will need to use an additional travel day if you switch trains after your night train arrives past midnight and you continue your journey. The Rail Planner app will prompt you to use another travel day when you add a new leg to your trip.
Please note that you cannot board a night train departing on the last valid day of your pass (e.g., if you have a pass with 7 days within 1 month, you cannot travel on a night train departing on the last day of that month), as your pass expires at 23:59.
For simplicity, here are two examples:
Example 1:
July 19, 11:26-16:02 Copenhagen H - Hamburg Hbf
July 19, 20:29-07:11+ Hamburg Hbf - Munich Hbf
= 1 travel day
Example 2:
July 19, 11:26-16:02 Copenhagen H - Hamburg Hbf
July 19, 20:29-07:11+ Hamburg Hbf - Munich Hbf
July 20, 09:34-16:19 Munich Hbf - Bologna C
= 2 travel days
